I went to the race confident, prepared, relaxed, excited, and willing to put it all out on the line. My dad and I were running late though and the race started at 9. So I began to warm up before we even got to the registration booth. I finished my warm up along with my dad finishing my registration. And then everything went down the tube. They were doing wave start every 10 minutes... I was the last wave. So instead of just sitting down and just waiting (probably smarter) and then warming up again, I tried to stay warm for the next hour...
I ran probably 30 seconds slower than I wanted to and it was on a downhill course.
I gave it my all though. And I'm hoping that this race was slow because of my hour+ long warm up.
I'm just going to try and forget about it. I'm getting new orthotics this week and I'm hoping that theyre going to make a huge difference. We'll see though. I'm not sure on the mileage that I'll run this week...depends how well I feel. Shin feels pretty good but with the new orthotics...I'll probably try and scale it back to 15 miles a week. Then the next week at 20 and stay there for 2 more weeks before going to 25. But thats in a long time from now. Things can change so much in just one day so we'll see....but I know one thing, I can't wait til faster training!

Race tomorrow

Most of you probably know this. You're training is going amazingly and then just one lil thing pops up and your done. Most of it was a mistake on the person's part. I over stretched my calf and I basically caused myself shin splints. I'm not sure if it was just that or the drills and/or the weight training I did later in the day. (this happened last week.)
but its just a bummer. I'm mostly speed when it comes to running races but I don't know how good my cardio can even become because I've never put in two 20 mile weeks in consecutively.
I'm not really complaining. Everything happens for a reason and I never wish that I was not hurt. I liked it because it humbled me and I have a appreciation for running. Maybe the reason that I am so addicted is because I don't know how good I can become and because I want to know that I can do this running thing right. I strongly feel that once I can work myself up to 40 mile weeks for base training, I can be one of the better distance runners on the team. But we'll see, I've never been a good natural distance runner. In 5th grade I barely broke 10 minutes. lol. I was trying really hard too, thats the sad part. In 8th grade my PR was like 7:30 or something. Of course that is without running except for the mile once a week for PE.
Maybe I just needed to let my body mature?
Anyways, I have a road mile tomorrow. My realistic goal is to break 5:15. I haven't been training for the past week and my left shin is not happy with me right now, but I know that if I run and put myself through the kind of pain that I know that will get me a 5:15, then I can do it. (I dont think that last sentence was set up or said very well lol) My above and beyond goal (yes I do call that my A goal. This is how I set it up. I make three goals. The C goal is the goal that I know that I can meet. If I don't meet it, I won't be happy at all. My B goal is the goal that if I reach, I'll be happy with myself and one that I am pretty sure that I can do. My A goal (above and beyond) is basically my breakthrough goal. Just for this race though, my C goal is rather wimpy because I've been sick and I haven't trained for a week. So, we'll see how it turns out. I just need to run hard enough the WHOLE time to where I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen. It takes the stress out of running. Just run as fast as you can until you get that feeling, and you don't have to worry about anything else. Doing your best is not being able to breathe (or at least in my case).
Anyways, in the Mcmillan running calc, it says that I can break 5 minutes. We'll see though...

Hey everyone, I've decided to blog after reading many other people's blogs and I thought that it'd be cool to look back after a year and see how far I've come.
Well, for everyone out there, I just graduated highschool and I ran xc and track my senior year. I decided to skip golf since I got my letterman's patch and that was my big goal in highschool sports. Too bad I was too enthusiastic about my new running career and getting hurt in the first few weeks. Shin splints. Those 'lil devils suck. After almost a year I'm not running 20 mile weeks. WOOHOO!!! I've been told that I wasn't ever going to be able to run more then 3 times a week.
Now, I am running but my left shin has been bugging for about 2 weeks. But with going to the chiro 3 times a week, he thinks I should be nice and dandy. So this is going to be what I'm going through and what obstacles I face along the way to try and be a runner and a triathlete. Yes, I'm also training for that too, there's alot that you don't know about me but eventually you'll probably know me better then myself!

Let's start off by saying that I ran 4 - 4 and a half miles today. Now I only need to run 3 miles tomorrow and that'll cap off my first 20 mile week. And I just felt my shin and it feels pretty amazing. Thanks to my chiro today, he really popped my pelvis back in place. It's been buggin for a while and he'd crack my back but it didn't seem like it was going in. O, but I felt it this time. It probably was going in the other times, I just know that the right lower corner of my back was the first to pop when he twisted me. It was a awesome feeling.
Then eating at denny's was kinda fun. It was more fun to just be there. Since I'm lactose intolerant, it kinda sucks to only eat french fries and sausage.
It was fun though, and isn't that what life should be?
